Barack Obama and Earmarks

October 7, 2008

We all know about Obama’s claims that he is against earmarks and wasteful government spending like McCain. While doing some research into the election I found some disturbing information about Obama’s past with earmarks.

Barack Obama, a man some people call Obamessiah, voted for an earmark that would pull money away from the efforts to rebuild New Orleans to help fund the “Bridge to Nowhere”. For some reason this never has been mentioned when his campaign criticized Palin for being for the “Bridge to Nowhere” before she was against it. Furthermore, he had also voted to pull more money away from New Orleans relief to build a baseball park and visitors center. That is just two of many wasteful earmarks that Obama has supported.

After the collapse of the I-35 bridge, Obama chose to vote for an earmark to build a BIKE PATH… instead of divert those funds to bridge safety and maintenance. These aren’t the only examples of wasteful spending supported by Obama. In the past he had requested earmarks to help out those who donated as little as $1,000 to his campaign. He had even voted against two amendments by John McCain that would eliminate earmarks and wasteful spending. Is this the man we want as our nations leader?
